Just been playing Arkham City(thank you Steam)on PC. Is it just me or are the controls WAY more responsive than on Xbox?

I guess you have your PC attached to a LCD monitor and your console attached to a TV. Most (all?) TV sets have a lag of several milliseconds (up to three frames at 60 fps) due to operating systems and HDMI copy protection. Though the same issues may occur on LCD monitors, they might be less severe.

No I'm running on a TV via HDMI :-S. Would it be the fps being higher than console?
Comment by Equinoxe on December 27, 2012 at 10:35am

It's not the FPS that are affected, but the time between input and response on screen and there are multiple processes running on an LCD TV that make them less responsive. Some of those might also occur on LCD monitors, but not necessarily to that extent. The link I provided explains it.

And a funny fact: it often takes longer for a signal to travel from the output of your console to the point when the photon is emitted from the display than for a signal to travel from your console wireless router to a server on the other side of the world.

Oh, and on any proper PC the FPS easily are higher than on any console :P

While fps will always have something to do with it, it might be several things like hardware/software polling rates, a different engine optimization PC/XBOX and good old fashioned subjectivity:)

Well, what I described above does not affect framerate, but if the framerate is too low, responsiveness is reduced as well because you have to wait for the update of the image. So if you play at 30 FPS on console and 60 FPS on PC, depending on the game there IS a difference, and not just subjectively. But 60 FPS means 16 ms per frame, while the lag I described above may be as huge as 40 to 65 ms.

The Axe Factor Poll!

How much does the Xbox One-Nvidia "scandal" bother YOU?
A lot. This is one step removed from the Killzone 2 pre-rendered E3 trailer0%
I don't care as long as the games look this good running on Xbox One hardware (which they probably will)0%
Not at all, people are being naive to think this practice doesn't happen all the time0%
I'll reserve judgement until we see if the games look noticeably different on Xbox One hardware0%

No EpicBattleCry This Week :[

Hey all. As I said in this week's episode of The Axe Factor, we won't be able to record EpicBattleCry this week. With DK still out of town and a last minute snag in Tony's schedule, we just weren't able to carve out the time to get together.

In light of today's news vis-a-vis Microsoft, that might not be such a terrible thing since we normally record on Tuesday and we would have completely missed out on discussing this dramatic reversal. In any case, we should be…

Today I 'ave been mostly rememberin': Metroid Games

As I am typing this, we're deep inside the annual summer gaming drought of 2013. The last interesting current gen game I played was Bioshock Infinite. I'm now waiting patiently for The Last of Us to drop through the mail slot. In the interim, I have amused myself by going back and playing a whole bunch of the old Metroid titles. And I've had an absolute blast doing so. It's been one of the most nostalgic and satisfying gaming periods of my entire life. I replayed and finished all five of the…

What is your greatest wish/expection for the new generation?

After some discussion with the axeheads I asked myself what I want out of the next generation of gaming. And my answer is suprising. |It is neither better grafics or better AI. It does not even have to do with hardware.

What I want from the next generation the most is the introduction of used game sales for digital games. As soon as one of the major platforms does that I will go all digital, never looking back.

So, what would you like to see?

Nintendo Says: If devs are worried about used game sales, they should make better games

This bold statement was made by Nintendo and features on the Polygon site.

Personly i do, considering that most of the games made today and which are gonna be made for the Next-Generation of konsoles will be like before.
