I bought a PS3 for MGS4 and haven't regretted it since. If games really matter, are exclusives truly enough to make you buy a new console?

Well, games in general make me want to buy a new console. And exclusives make me choose which console in particular. Exclusives are almost exclusively (hehe) what I base my console purchase off of. Sony is really dedicated to releasing some great first party content like God of War and Uncharted while supporting indie releases like Journey. This leaves Sony with an almost overwhelming amount of first party games, something I dont feel Microsoft will emphasize as much in the next generation.

I did the exact same thing, Ry. Plus, it was a Blu-Ray player.

I bought a 360 almost solely for Dead Rising and the inevitable Halo 3. I upgraded to a gaming PC for Final Fantasy XIV. So, exclusives greatly influence what I buy.

Thing is if you own a console and not a gaming PC you are still missing out on a lot of really good PC games and paying at least $10 more for multi-platform games above that of the PC version. The PC version of games which generally looks and plays better as well usually open to mods. If it wasn't for the exclusive Beyond: Two Souls I wouldn't even look at the PS4.

Well this question wasn't specifically aimed at consoles, I just used that for an example. I'm just interested in seeing how much exclusives matter to people. I, personally, feel like they are push into the door that leads to buying a platform. Like I said I bought a Ps3 for MGS4 and God of War 3 and since then I've enjoyed games like Journey and Ni no Kuni. I also built a gaming PC for Starcraft 2 and recently upgraded it last year cause I wanted to play Battlefield 3 on max settings and now I'm enjoying the Witcher 1 & 2 and Guild Wars 2. With new consoles coming along a lot of people are saying that exclusives don't matter, however I believe they are what defines a platform. I'm buying a Ps4 for the next Naughty Dog game, I'm keeping my PC for the Witcher 3... However I look at my 360 now and see no reason why I need a 720 because I've grown tired of Halo and Gears.

So what you are saying peeps is you diched 300$~400$ for a console so you can get... i dunno...30~40 hours of entertainment(thats 2 exclusive games average lengh :D)? Wow ...you guys are filthy rich... :D Buy a PC...join the ranks of the PC master race...JOIN US!!!!"says in hypnotic silky voice" :D No console has as many exclusives as the PC..JOIN US !!! I KNOW YOU WHANT TO!!!"mesmerising eye contact" (<(|)>)

Exclusives are the only reason to get a console.. That and to have a Bluray player that can multitask. Multitask as in more than just play Bluray discs and like, exclusive games, go to the internet with and get netflix and stuff like that.

Exclusives are important. I got a PS3 for the Uncharted Series and MLB: The Show (and then Infamous and God of War) but I think most important is where your friends play. The majority of mine are on 360 so that's where I play most of my games.  For non-exclusives, I got BF3 for PS3 because the couple friends who also have PS3s got it and now they never play that anymore, so I hadn't played it for >6 months till last night.  I'm starting to move to PC for the next generation but I know most of my friends won't so that'll make gaming with them a little more difficult if/when they upgrade (luckily I just built a PC for my brother so I should have him on PC in the long run...).

Of course, if you prefer single player or don't care who you game with then by all means, exclusives would be the reason to choose a console.

Like Brent, I more or less only buy a console for exclusives. I rent almost all console exclusive titles and buy all multiplats on PC.

I'm Making A Game

Actually that's been the plan for a while now I just failed to mention it here before. I did type up a development document, track down freeware programs to make it and finished the concept art work. Then I spent the last four months doing nothing. I recently came to the conclusion that my idea, while interesting, was waaaay too ambitious a project for me to undertake right now. I hope to revisit the idea sometime in the future but for now it's very much in storage.

So why bring this…
