Pachter claims next-gen games will be $70, yet Jack Tretton has already confirmed that they would remain at $60. Is Pachter just stupid?

Here's the article from IGN stating that Pachter thinks that next gen games will be $70.

Here's the article of Jack Tretton confirming games would remain anywhere in the range of $0.99-$60.

It could end up like this gen where games start out at 60 but then go up to 70.

That's a possibility, but that will be a hard sell. I don't think that would fly, honestly. If games, all of a sudden, got a price increase in the middle of the console life cycle, I believe people would be even more annoyed/outraged.

Maybe he meant 60 Dollar disc with 10 dollar+ day one DLC? Oh wait, we have that now.

Hey publishers can sell their new games for 100$ if they whanna... i dont rly care cus ill be buying my stuff on GOG for single digits :D next gen pfah.. i barely stand the games that came this gen and all the crap publishers spawned... on disc DLC/first day DLC/season pass/authenticating servers/always online...who knows how bad things will become next gen...

P.S noone is forcing you to buy games at 60$...you can one---buy the game for the PC 10$ cheaper...two---not buy any of the DLC for the game...three---wait for the games price to drop...

If you count day 1 DLC that locks content behind pay-walls, games are already $70. Hell, SimCity is pretty much an $80 rental. These practices will increase next gen. When it is all said and done, how much does the average person pay for a Call of Duty title? $110? You see, just because the suggested retail claims $60 it's not exactly accurate.

If I knew for a fact that they would give me all of the content upfront I'd be okay with $70 retail. But we all now the practice will continue no matter what suggested retail is.

That is very true @Trevor. I agree with you. If the games were to be raised to $70, but that extra content they would have sold as DLC otherwise was there, I wouldn't mind. But then again, we would have no idea if it was or not.

The way I see it, they would hike up the price of the game, there would be even less content in it, and more would be sold as DLC or added in as microtransactions. I'm pretty sure some companies got some next-gen DLC tactics ready for us..

I'm not buying pc games for more than 20€, its just not worth it. And if i see a season pass, i pass on the game. The only game with one i bought was bf3 because of my friends. But when they announced a season pass all went to hell :/ it split the playerbase so much i had to get it... for a time it was impossible to get a server with vanilla maps. No i just rather skip on games like that. It gets too expensive.
I feel like the 60$ price tag has been an illusion for a long time now. Everything is multiplayer and/or always on drm. And if you do not get all the dlc you cannot play with your friends.

@Docwoor dont get me wrong...but your friends are part of the problem^^' when i game with my friends we usualy choose a F2P title so that evryone can jump right in...or we play and older game using hamachi...if the servers are down...i never felt forced to buy any game or any DLC...

Me and my friends have been long time fans of the BF-franchise, so we jumped right into bf3. At that time the season pass hasn't been announced, at least not to my knowledge.  so we all got it and played happily for a few months, till the dlc started rolling in. My biggest gripe is that servers running older maps were few and far between and mostly dead, we were forced to buy the new ones. The dlc split the community. It wouldnt have been so bad if the dlc contained only guns and skins, or even vehicles. but the maps were too much, it ruined the game for anyone who didnt want to spend more money.

Its nice now with more and more f2p games.

Dear Microsoft

Hi Microsoft its me, the little guy who's been buying your consoles for the last ten years. Just wanted to let you now how excited I was by your new console reveal. Sure I would have liked to see more games (maybe even one being played) but I get why you didn't go that route. The reveal was a focus on the system itself right and you wanted to keep it relevant to actual specs and functionality, like when you announced a Halo TV show. Things like that were why people tuned in and I'm sure its…
