Those amongst you that have come to rely on Valve’s Steam service should know that some major upgrades are underway and that all current Steam users can opt in to the public beta to test out said upgrades. Basically, the revamp institutes a complete overhaul of the Steam UI that’s designed to improve how you discover features while better exposing the info pertaining to your games library. The UI overhaul extends to the in-game overlay as well, aiming to create a richer in-game experience while exposing context sensitive info relating to the game you’re playing as you play it.
The revamp is pretty drastic and quite large in scope…Here are a few more bullet points about the new Steam UI:
• New game details view, presenting a detailed view of all the information for a single game in your library
• New grid view, presenting a graphical view of your game library
• New news page in the store/client/overlay which aggregates from Valve related news sites, official community groups, and third-party gaming news feeds
• New downloads view in the client, making it easier to track your progress downloading new games or game updates
• New Steam store design, including more integrated community features, improved recommendations, and improved video and screenshots viewing (and much more!)
So, bottom line…if you’re interested in checking out this rather impressive update and getting in on the beta, just go here and prepare to get Steamy!
Thx for sending this in Schwick!

Looks nice and clean…
Thanks for the info =D

Anyway, I’m using the beta at the moment. It looks good and definitely a nod towards consoles. Now lets hope we get more integrated steam stuff from other games/developers.
I’m really enjoying the Beta UI. Looks great and there are some new features in there that are fairly nice. While the games list could be a bit more refined, I do enjoy all the extra info, friends achievements and so on after highlighting the game.
Though after the UI update, the community pages look horribly outdated. Can’t wait to see what valve will do with those. It may not be perfect, but I’d already have a hard time going back to the old steam UI.
