Capcom recently revealed that the beloved Street Fighter franchise will be coming to Apple’s iPhone this March in the form of a very “touchy” Street Fighter IV…despite the lack of physical controls. The news, which first surfaced over on IGN, brings word that Capcom has spent “months” coming up with a suitable control scheme to properly recreate the arcade stick on the iPhone’s touch screen. Also, the iPhone version apparently pulls its assets directly from current-gen code, meaning that in terms of graphics, the game should offer the same character models with minimal color or detail loss.
Oh, and as far as the game’s roster, Ken and Ryu are the only two confirmed thus far, but Capcom is promising a “large” roster in the final version featuring both classic characters and SFIV newcomers. The game will also have a “Dojo” mode where you can practice up with said characters and get used to the new control scheme.
Lastly, the report states that the game will feature multiplayer for two brawlers via Bluetooth, but other details are pretty sparse. Specifics on pricing, the full roster, modes, etc. are yet to come, but we’ll of course keep you posted as new info emerges.
So, SFIV fans, you happy about this???

Have you ever met an ex-girl or boyfriend and had to ask them a favor? Usually when the relationship hasn’t exactly ended well your former companion will likely deny your request with a smug smirk on their face. Now when Nintendo asked Capcom to give it some Street Fighter IV action and everyone said “oh I’m terribly sorry, I’m really busy right now and besides this game won’t run on your system and the controls just aren’t right and … oh gotta go”. If anyone can fill me in on the nasty details leading to this, I’m all ears.
This is how I feel about the whole SF IV situation. The controls could be solved with a custom fightstick bundled with the game and the graphics are obviously not an issue. I rarely use my Wii nowadays and sold my SF IV:CE after playing it maybe 5 hours (I just suck at newer fighting games -don’t want to spend the time to get better). r0ckarongQuote
That’s great news for iphone owners, but it also makes me think… if they are willing to make an effort to port sf4 to the iphone, a system not so much known for its hardcore gaming community, why not try it for the Wii as well? Maybe they are planning on doing so, who knows, I wouldn’t say the majority of Wii owners are hardcore gamers either, so I could understand it if they were skeptical for this reason… draickinQuote
Well about SFIV not being on the Wii I don’t see what’s all the complaining about, to be honest Nintendo got the best side of the stick with Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom.
As for this being ported to the iPhone or iPod touch, I think it’s just going to be a joke; a failed marketing strategy just because the target is just not there, and even if it was there this is what’s going to happen:
A) Casuals just won’t “get it”.
B) Hardcore will find a “bare bones” version of what they are really looking for. RaisinsQuote
I’m still skeptical to its graphics since it was scaled down to accommodate the processing power of the iPhone. I’m also thinking how its controls would be like. aion databaseQuote
I can see it already…the quarters lining up on my office desk, close the doors, take a number…time to start up the office competition. Gives me something else to do on those long conference calls. =) NookSurferQuote
