Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is following the footsteps of many and is releasing an all-in-one version of itself. The only difference here is that this isn’t a ‘Game of the Year’ edition, but rather an ‘Ultimate Edition’ package. First being leaked on internet retailers, EA confirmed to the guys at GamerZines that this edition is real and will ship with the following:

  • Battlefield 1943
  • Limited Edition and VIP Unlocks
  • The recent ‘Onslaught’ DLC Mode

This package will go for $59.99, not a bad deal since the regular version is $39.99. 1943 is a kick ass game as well, so you’re making out with a lot of playtime here.

The Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Ultimate Edition is slated to ship August 31, will you be picking it up?  Or is it too close of a release to the other shooters coming out this fall? Let your voice be heard below!

It really seems like these should be called “Mode Packs” not “Map Packs”, don’t ya’ think? Either way, DICE has announced that the newest DLC for their recent hit, Battlefield: Bad Company 2, will be landing next Tuesday, June 9th, for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

This “Map Pack” will bring Squad Deathmatch to the Nelson Bay map and Squad Rush to the Laguna Alta map. Like the previous DLC for this title, if you bought the game new, you get it for free! However, if you bought it used or have rented it, you will have to pay $15/1200 Microsoft Points for the VIP Pass to get it. But if you do purchase the VIP Pass, you get the previous two DLC packs as well, so that’s somethin’.

And don’t you worry PC owners, this pack is coming for you too. DICE has said that it will be made available for all PC players of the game, for free, after the release of the next update. Everyone, PC & console brethren (and sistren) alike, can check out the trailer for the DLC right here!

So are you still playing BFBC2? Or did ya go back to Modern Warfare 2? And does this third DLC pack make the VIP Pass worth it? Sound off below, soldier!

Check below for the full list of fixes!

• Award bugfix for “Win all 4 game modes” (it had marksman headshot as a dependency)

BFBC2_OnslaughtDLC
Battlefield: Bad Company 2 has been tearing up the charts and quite a few servers on its way to becoming one of the more popular FPS titles on the market today. Well, EA and developer DICE have announced that the carnage will soon continue via the release of new co-op gameplay featured in the upcoming “Onslaught” DLC via both XBL and PSN.

Here’s a description:

Onslaught is bringing co-op gameplay to Battlefield for the first time on console. The new game mode puts you and up to three friends against the enemy on Valparaiso, Atacama Desert, Isla Inocentes and Nelson Bay – redesigned with new lighting, time of day, added vehicles and other effects. Each map has a dedicated gameplay focus, requiring different levels of teamwork in order to complete the objectives against an onslaught of enemy AI. Vehicle warfare comes to the forefront in Atacama Desert while Nelson Bay focuses squarely on infantry assault. Players can compete in squads and check individual progress via the dedicated Onslaught leaderboards.

The content is slated for a release on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 and as Shacknews points out, the PC version is uncertain at the moment due to server issues.

We’ll keep you posted once release date/pricing details emerge, but check out this Onslaught teaser trailer to tide you over until then.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Getting Console Patch

The PC received an update for Battlefield: Bad Company 2 a couple of weeks ago and, man, was it nice. But it left console players of the game wondering where theirs was. Well here it is, my friends! The BFBC 2 update for the PS3 and the Xbox 360 will be available next Tuesday, May 11th.

But here’s a nice little surprise for you: Not only will you be getting all the changes that were made on the PC side, but you will be getting some extras. Here is the list of the extra changes the console will be getting (don’t worry PC people, these will show up on the PC too):

  • The AKs74u now has more felt recoil when aiming
  • The G3, VSS, and all Semi-Automatic rifles now settle slightly faster between shots when aiming
  • The PKM, Type 88LMG, G3, An94, and 40mm shotgun have returned to their former glory
  • Increased the damage of the MG3 to bring it in line with the rest of the LMGs
  • Fixed a bug where the Saiga12 with slugs would do too much damage at long range
  • Fixed a bug where the SVU would do too little damage at long range
  • Fixed a bug where M95 rounds would not kill armored targets with headshots
  • Slightly increased the damage of the UZI at long range

Put these changes together with the overhead images for tactical planning, and you should be good to go for another 100 hours of fragging fun!!

Well, it seems that the folks at EA and DICE saw what Zipper Interactive did with their multiplayer only killfest, MAG, because they’ve gone and done the same exact thing.

That’s right, the folks that brought you Battlefield: Bad Company 2 have now brought you some battlefield intel to help you accomplish your mission in the multiplayer portion of the game. DICE has now provided gamers with 20 hi-res images (that’s 2 for each map), taken from an overhead perspective, of all of the maps used in multiplayer. The Map Pack File is about 130 MB and can be downloaded for your viewing pleasure right here.

So check ‘em out, if you think it will improve your game. For me, well, I justknow that this is that last little thing I needed to achieve total world domination! How ’bout you?!

Gaming Matters: Not Captivated
By Lorin Baumgarten

So this week’s Gaming Matters is going to be a short one. It is going to be a short one because it is less of an opinion on my part, and more of a solicitation of yours. This week’s article is based on the main discussion from Episode 73 of EpicBattleCry. The discussion on the show focused on Captivate, Capcom’s annual press event that took place in Hawaii this year. I don’t want to discuss Capcom’s 2010 line-up or the luau-filled event itself. What I want to discuss this week is Capcom’s idiotic download packages and pricing structures, and others like them in the industry. And when I am done, I want to hear what you think about this emerging trend. Are game makers simply cutting pieces off of their games and repackaging them as “bonuses” or DLC? How many games now have “Day 1 DLC”? Let’s get into it, shall we?
