Within one of the most flooded genres of gaming, Bethesda and Splash Damage are attempting to deliver something unique…something interesting…something than can in fact push shooting games and their fans to the brink. As a blend of single-player, co-op, and multiplayer, the upcoming Brink allows gamers to develop their character each and every time they pick up the controller. With a unique graphical style and plenty of hardcore, fast-paced action, the SMART movement system (preview video above), and context-sensitive goals and rewards, Brink is bringing A LOT to the table. Question is, do you think it offers enough to stand out from the crowd or are you feeling the game will fall short of expectations?

What’s up everybody?!?!?! DK Money here with the first Member BattleCry of the new week as we break down YOUR favorite things from the 2010 Game Developers Conference.

Obviously, there were some rather big news from this year’s show and I’m sure we’ll get to it all before the week is through, but we’re gonna kick things off with a look at a promising looking title courtesy of Axe Head Dr. Awesome MD. Sure, there are A LOT of great games coming out in 2010, but as the good MD puts it, the latest project from Splash Damage and Bethesda might just combine several great gaming concepts and deliver a fresh experience that pushes us all to the Brink. Dear Epic Battle Axe,

My member battle cry goes out to none other than Brink! Where do I begin to talk about how excited I have become upon seeing everything that’s going into this game? I remember the teaser, which was shown at E3 2009 but I quickly lost interest due largely in part to how vague it was. When I saw the cinematic trailer from GDC my interest performed a complete 180, kicked me in the face, and told me to pay-the-hell attention to this game because it’s going to be great. Not only does it contain elements from some of my favorite titles such as team fortress and borderlands it has also borrowed liberally from some of the most innovative titles to come out over the last few years such as mirror’s edge. Usually I dislike the idea of new IPs showing little initiative in making a name for themselves with originality in terms of game mechanics but this game gives me a very good feeling. Bethesda and Splash Damage have an opportunity to take certain elements of other games, which didn’t work or otherwise partially worked (mirror’s edge) and refine them into something simple and manageable for all types of gamers. Watching game play from Brink only helped me realize even more how much potential this game has. I haven’t been this hyped for a game in many years and that’s saying a lot with all of the great titles that have come out over the last year.

I have to say that I agree Dr. Awesome…The first time I saw Brink I had no idea what to expect…I went to Bethesda’s booth at an event for an interview and they had the first showing of the game so of course I jumped in. It was NOTHING like I expected based on the original teaser trailer, but I came away thinking that the game had a freakin’ TON of potential. Since then, we’ve seen a bit more and I too think that it has the ability to combine some innovative ideas from other titles while executing better on them all on the whole. Of course, only time will tell if it lives up to the expectations, but it is indeed to see the new cinematic trailer from GDC and keep our hopes high.

First up in the main course...]]> Rally the forward lines its another edition of EpicBattleCry! In this week’s skirmish we examine the new details on Crackdown 2′s multiplayer, the October release of Borderlands, pay our respects to the last of the Godfather franchise, and ponder the possibilities of Dungeons & Dragons Online Unlimited going free.

First up in the main course we take a closer look at some of the sleeper hits of E3 2009 and go over a few games that got lost in the shuffle last week (cough Last Guardian cough). Next, we review Natal’s appearance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and wonder why the E3 demo wasn’t as impressive.

The Battle Cry of the Week goes to Metroid: Other M for fixing what isn’t broke, the Assassin’s Creed 2 Black Edition, Star Wars: The Old Republic, and calls for a game worthy of the Last Son of Krypton.
