What up? DK here with today’s EpicBattleAxe.com Member BattleCry pertaining to this week’s topic: The most immersive or atmospheric games or franchises. After yesterday’s look at Half-Life 2, today we’re going to examine one of the most established franchises in gaming…and a particular outing that helped solidify its standing as one of the most atmospheric franchises in the industry.

Of course, I’m talking about Metroid Prime and the MBC comes from Axe Head Booger who helps describe what made the game so great. Also, I gotta give a special shout out to Praxx and Ron Jeno‘s MBCs about Metroid…You should
most def check them out on the topic starter page. Anyway, hit the jump to read today’s Member BattleCry and be sure to sound off in the comments section below.

Booger says:

My Battle Cry goes out to Metroid Prime. The Metroid series is known for giving the player a sense of immersion and desolation but Prime really drove it home. With a massive world to explore and playing from a very personal first-person view the game revolutionized immersion by the way your visor interacted with the invironment. It would steam in hot climents, frost in cold ones, and be distorted when hit by electrical attacks. All of this carried into Metroid Prime 2&3 by creating an even bigger world in MP2 or using actually good motion controls in MP3. Metroid Prime set the bar for other games focusing on immersive environments and hopefully Other M will take notes.

END

Good job Booger…Short but sweet…So, who else thinks the same thing about Metroid Prime? Anyone have concerns about Other M not living up to the standard?

At the signal, prepare to unleash hell; its time for another edition of EpicBattleCry! In this week’s skirmish we discuss Alpha Protocol (now that its been officially dated), Brutal Legend being cancelled for the Wii, the rumors that Uncharted is headed for the PSP, and the news that World of Warcraft players will soon be able to switch factions.

In today’s main course, we talk about the state of affairs in stealth gaming. With core franchises moving in a more action oriented direction, what’s become of the beloved sneaking genre. Next up, we open Pandora’s box and diss on whether or not gamers are getting pumped at retail by higher prices and exclusive DLC.

The Battle Cry of the Week goes to the ScrewAttack Gaming Convention, the Metroid Prime triology art book, the Gamestop pre-order exclusive demo for Uncharted 2 multiplayer, and InstantAction.com for serving up fun, browser-based gaming.

Nick “More hair than you on my” Chester over at Dtoid has written up some deets about the rather snazzy looking art book (pictured) that will accompany the release of the Metroid Prime Trilogy on the Wii. Featuring five double-sided panels, printed with metallic ink on glossy paper, the book will contain sketches and concept art from the development of the games, along with the history of Samus and the Metroid series.

Awesome.

The Metroid Prime Trilogy is slated for a release this August, when it will completely rock your world.
