Around here at the ‘Axe we enjoy cleaving the fat from the gaming news of the day and we also enjoy cleaving some cost from your gaming budget when the opportunity arises. Well, we’ve teamed up with GoGamer.com to ensure you’re “in the know” about some serious deals taking place during the online retailers “48-Hour Madness” sales. What is “48-Hour Madness” you ask? Well, aside from the phrase often used to describe my wedding, it’s a two day period where gamers logging on to GoGamer.com can score some serious savings on existing or forthcoming games.

This week, folks looking forward to Mafia II can pre-order the game on the PS3 for $49.90 while those that missed out on Alan Wake can snag the Xbox 360 thriller for only $29 bucks. Also, PC gamers can pick up BioWare’s Mass Effect 2 for the ridiculous low price of $16.90 while wanna-be spies can sneak into the world of Sam Fisher in Splinter Cell: Conviction for $27.90. Lastly, Madden fans will soon get their chance to square off on the virtual gridiron and GoGamer.com’s punching your sideline seat for Madden NFL 11 with about a $7 savings off the regular retails price.

So, check out all of this week’s 48-Hour Madness sales and pre-order pricing specials right here and see if there’s anything you like.

Happy shopping!

The day has finally come. OnLive has launched and I finally have it to play with. I must say, the service is pretty darn cool, though not very functional – yet. I have always been one of the proponents of OnLive, the cloud gaming service that promises the ability to play games, streamed from their servers, on virtually any computer (and later this year on a console). I think the freedom to carry their proprietary MicroConsole with you when you travel, or to play games on a $500 laptop is pretty enticing. Cross platform game saves (PC to console) and the ability to play the game on both is also pretty enticing, to say the least. But there are drawbacks too. A poor or lost internet connection will mean no gaming at all and, when you do purchase games from the service, you don’t actually own them. But do the benefits outweigh the risks? Let’s take a look.

Ubisoft has announced that they will be providing free DLC for the recently released Splinter Cell: Conviction. The content will include weapons, character skins, and even a additional Deniable Ops map. The first piece of content being handed down is the MP7A1 Machine Pistol. To find the content, just check the ‘Extras’ portion of the game’s main menu.

So does this make up for the fact that Ubisoft put the world’s worst DRM onto Assassin’s Creed 2 for the PC? Let us know what you think in the comments section below.

SnoopXbox
While Splinter Cell: Conviction has endured a rather long and arduous road to release, now that its out, many a gamer has been singing its praises. Chief amongst them is none other than Snoop Dogg, who must have been so compelled by the latest entry in the franchise that felt the need to tweet the following:

@ubisoft doin thingz proper…been sittn playn splinter cell for like 5 hours…

Damn! I didn’t know Snoop spent five straight hours doing ANYTHING! Well, I guess I can think of a few things, but I guess playing Splinter Cell wasn’t one of them.

Anyway, how do YOU feel about SC:C? We’ve just posted our uREVIEW of the game so you can let your voice be heard (and that includes you Snoop!).

Those eager to pick up the special edition of Ubisoft’s Splinter Cell: Conviction this week should know that the North American version has been discounted by ten bucks, taking the price down from $80 to $70. Why? Well, apparently a number of the USB thumb drives that come with the SE, which are SUPPOSED to contain things like concept art, a making-of documentary, etc , simply don’t work…but don’t fret, the goodies will in fact be made available for download this Thursday, April 15th.

So, like Dtoid before us, we’d like to issue props to Ubisoft for handling this in a pretty damn cool way. Discounting the special edition, ensuring the additional content gets to fans, communicating with the masses…Nice! Crap happens, it’s how you DEAL with it that matters…Now, about that DRM issue

RumorKill_040310
Happy long weekend everyone and welcome to an Easter egg filled edition of Epicbattleaxe.com’s The Rumor KILL. It’s been a fun week this week as wading through the Aprils Fools stories while trying to find real rumors was a bit daunting. However, I think I avoided being fooled and was able to find true blue rumors to break down and evaluate. Now, normally this is the part where I take the time to tell you if it’s been a slow or busy week or state what’s on my mind, but this week I’m too busy snaking on this scrumptious Cadbury Cream Egg to really care so let’s skip the padding shall we and just get to some gossip!
