Maybe a questoin to you guys, what do you think of the game?
Cool idea, but will u guys also start doing reivews?
shudnt it also be a requirement to finish the game? or are we gonna have a whole bunch of uReviews based off of demos?
The Good: If you enjoyed the 1rst Devil May Cry. Or if your really, really into J-pop/Manga then you’ll like it. Great set pieces, thousands of moves from different button combos and weapon configurations, It was in focus.
The Bad: Lazy level design, you’ll see the same scenery for 10 chapters just from different angles. No story, You have no idea what is happening or why, nothing makes sense and nothing is explained in any sense. Lazy enemy design by recycling enemies. Because there are so many combos/weapon combos/moves you often find yourself doing something you didn’t want to, thousands of moves but you rely on just a few, rely on what works quickest using a tiny fraction of moves. Voice acting sucks, Bayonetta and the Villainess Jeanne have the same Voice Actor??? that and it was like I was watching Animaniacs with the Enzo Character. Cheap instant death moments, if you like to blink then you will die every time a quick time prompt appears.
The Ugly: Load times, PS1 style loading for everything load for every item you pick up, load to pause, load to watch cinematic, load when coming out of cinematic, load after load after load. It will even load after a level to a loading screen only to load you to a title screen, it never ends. For an action game there is no action, it gives you an enemy/enemies and it’s five minutes of fighting then nothing. You spend alot of time doing nothing, walking around, watching shitty cinematic,or loading screens. Out of 8 hours of playtime only 2 hours was actually spent doing action/fighting. Absolutely worthless camera, it moves so slowly that you will repeatedly be hit from something out of the frame. So spastic is the hit detection that it becomes a button mashing chore to make it through a fight, one second your hitting someone with a combo then the enemy hits you even though 2 seconds ago the combo was unblockable on the same enemy. Items are so sparse that “Concocting” them when you need them is worthless. everything in the store is overpriced and items you do need(health, shield, other)are limited to only a few per visit so you can’t stock on items you need. Crotch shots.
Final Word: You have to be a major fan of J-Pop/Manga/Anime to enjoy it. I can see why Famitsu gave it a 10, but this game is just not right for a western market. Poorly paced, lazy design, inexcusable loading, horrendous camera, moves-list overkill, bad dialogue,no story, and positively mind-numbing boredom. This game is bad, rent it before you buy it
Does anyone know if Bayonetta was actually based on a manga?
The Good: That combat is very fast paced with flawless transitions betweens the moves, special or torture as well. Graphics are fucking sweet, not Uncharted fucking sweet but still fucking sweet. Really liked the level layout and enjoyed the outrageous story that didn’t make a whole lot of sense, for what story there was. Epic bosses were epic… Brought back the memories of playing Devil May Cry (first one), and all the nice little shout outs to other games were great.
I guess Cuckoo got the PS3 version because there was very little loading bog down on the 360 version.
The Bad: A bit on the short side, beat it in 13 hours.
The Ugly: Some cheap deaths until you figure out the timing for most bosses. Witch time helps a lot, especially for the final boss towards the very end of the battle.
Final Word: Really enjoyed the hell out of this game, glad I got it from Gamefly.
@Doc No it wasn’t a pre-exisiting manga serie, it was all Kamiya’s brainchild.
Although I did have the PS3 version (with the horrible load times) it did not in any way result in me saying it’s a bad game for that sole fact. The game is horrible beyond belief. The first 10 chapters are the same village just with different color palettes, play through it and you’ll see the same town square and courtyard at least 3 different times. The camera is horrible and utterly useless. What good are 1.000 moves if it’s quicker to use 2 or 3 per enemy type. Keep track of the time you spend actually doing anything action oriented then compare it to how long you do nothing. The Vehicle levels were appalling, I had better bike movement/control in the NES Classic Excitebike than I had in this turd. Nothing makes sense and it’s even worse just to plow through it. This game is just riding on the glowing review from Famitsu and the reviewers (like IGN, GT, and so on) are turning a blind eye to a game so full of flaws that it’s no wonder people are questioning their ethics. This game is Devil May Cry 1.75, wich would have been great in the PS2 era but in today’s generation is akin giant turd with a really pretty bow on it.
Completely understand how the levels are reused but I really don’t care about that, the game was a blast to play through. The lack of level design, well just reusing levels with different skins, doesn’t take away from the fun factor of this game.
The Good: Unparalleled gaming insanity. Breakdancing, poledancing, lolly pop sucking, tuba shotgun, angel twatting insanity all choreographed to a soft jazz soundtrack and underlined by hair monsters. Bat shit crazy barmyness.
The Bad: Cheap deaths. Recycled boss fights. Cultural differences?
The Ugly: The story was not worth the sometimes lengthy cutscenes. Cheap deaths, constantly got the stone trophy.
Go buy bayonetta, PS3 or 360 just go buy bayonetta, especially if you are a fan of hack n slash games.
The good: loved the action, the difficulty, and the weapon system. The soundtrack is great, Epic scale end boss. Loved the references to a ton of videogames.
The Bad: Like others have said, recycled boss fights, learning curve a bit steep. Movie film scenes are meh.
The Ugly: story could have been better.
