An open letter addressed to Xbox Live Members from Xbox Live General Manager Mark Whitten brings word that come April 15, 2010, Microsoft will be discontinuing the Xbox Live service for original Xbox consoles and games, including original Xbox titles playable on the Xbox 360.
Expressing that “this isn’t a decision we made lightly”, Whitten explains that the strategic move is for the long-term benefit of the XBL community as a whole and that the XBL team will “continue to evolve the service” with features and experiences that harness the full power of Xbox 360. In order to do that, the letter states that Microsoft needs to make changes to the service that are “incompatible with our original Xbox v1 games.”
So, there ya go…XBL support for original Xbox titles is going bye-bye come April. We’ll keep you posted if there are any more details to share.

I think achievement support would have probably made the BC a lot more relevant – but no doubt this would have increased the cost of the service.
I don’t know how I feel about this, on one hand I didn’t use it much anymore but on the other I guess I kind of expected it to be available. I pay for LIVE and thus I feel that it should be available. As DLC becomes a more relevant income for these companies, I feel that they should allow online games to be online for good. The digital age needs to be ironed out a bit more it seems, for some the amount of DLC that they purchase may be hampered by the realization that it’s only usable for as long as the company wants. I guess I should give a hand for DLC that is available on disk, and the community that keeps some of these games online outside of LIVE.
*Shrugs*Ok. But its not like it matters sins there are somany other 360 games already out there or coming in a near feature that nobody will realy care about the original Xbox games. Peoel only wanted original Xbox support for the Halo 1 and 2 games. Now we have that and we dont realy need any more then that. Besids there will be tons of new, cool and just awsome games comming soon like Bioshock 2 and Aliens vs Predator to name two. And alot of peopel is probebly playing Mass Effect 2 so nobody have time for the original Xbox games anyway so who cares. I dont.
Well I and Many thousands of others realy do not care, the original xbox was out when PC Gaming was booming and nearly ever reasonable Computer could play with ease any of the game on the market, Then it went crasy when the 360 came out & Graphics on the PC jumped every few months with new graphics cards need to frequently.
The end of the online support for the xbox is long over due and While Microsoft tried to kill off the PC Gamers with constant upgrades needed people who still use the original xbox have had there moneys worth.
RIP Xbox……
Jesus Christ Monkeyballs! Like anybody gives two shits about the original Xbox games anymore.
I care about them, and anyone should who takes this hobby seriously as an art form. Basically art is being killed here just to make a few more $ for Microsoft. The worst thing they did was cut off access to the DLC yesterday with no warning, so we can’t even get the patches or add-ons we need now. They’re lost forever. Very sad. And you just know now that Microsoft will do the same thing to the 360 once the next Xbox is out. So enjoy your Xbox 360 multiplayer games now, their time is limited.
